SOCIAL media stars are trying to help plant 20million trees by 2020.
YouTubers from a number of genres, have joined forces in the movement #TeamTrees. Here’s what we know.
What is Team Trees?
The TeamTrees challenge was launched when YouTuber MrBeast reached 20million subscribers.
MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, recalls one of his fans urging him to plant 20million trees to commemorate his huge audience.
Explaining why he decided to help plant trees, he said memes about his tree project went viral on social media.
MrBeast also claimed he has previously set things on fire, so this is his way of repaying the environment.
How does Team Trees work?
MrBeast called others on Twitter to plant more than 1,500 trees in two days.
But he has now partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation to launch the #teamtrees website, where fans can donate $1 for each tree to be planted.
Arbor Day Foundation is the largest nonprofit organisation dedicated to planting trees.
Their mission is to “inspire people to plant, nurture and celebrate trees”, Woody Nelson, the organisation’s marketing communications president said.
Within 24hours of the site’s launch, $100,000 was raised from fans and other YouTubers.
