TWO pilots were killed but 43 passengers and cabin crew miraculously survived when a Russian plane burst into flames after crash landing into a sewage treatment plant during an emergency landing.
Nineteen of those on board have been rushed to hospital.
The Antonov-24 had asked for an emergency landing after suffering an engine failure soon after takeoff from Nizhneangarsk in the Siberian republic of Buryatia.
Reports say the plane veered off the runway as it landed, crashing through a fence and colliding head-on with a sewage treatment building.
Forty three people including two children were pulled to safety seconds before fire exploded through the cabin gutting the plane.
Two cabin crew were among the survivors.
Videos showed firefighters spraying water on the wreckage as toxic black smoke poured from the aircraft.
Minutes after the crash, the passenger cabin was entirely gutted.
Reports initially said seven were hospitalised after the rescue operation on the 44-seat twin turboprop aircraft.
Later the figure was updated to 19 needing hospital treatment.
